This Sunday: Grace in Light

“I was blind, but now I see.” This simple seven-word testimony from John 9 anchors our exploration of how grace gradually opens our eyes. Pastor Travis reflects on the movement from darkness to light, inviting us to notice where we are starting to see God, ourselves, and the world differently. Discover how spiritual sight isn’t …

This Sunday, we’re hearing the story of a man born blind who receives his sight.

It’s a long story—41 verses in John 9. There’s drama, interrogation, conflict. The Pharisees don’t believe the man was really blind. They interrogate him. They interrogate his parents. They kick him out of the synagogue.

But in the middle of all that drama, there’s this one simple, beautiful line:

“I was blind but now I see.”

That’s it. That’s the testimony. That’s the whole story in seven words.

I was blind. Now I see.

And here’s what I’ve been thinking about this week:

What are you starting to see that you couldn’t see before?

Maybe it’s something about God. Maybe you’re starting to see God’s presence in places you never noticed before. Or maybe you’re starting to see God differently than you used to.

Maybe it’s something about yourself. Maybe you’re starting to see your own worth, your own belovedness, your own capacity for change.

Maybe it’s something about the world. Maybe you’re starting to see injustice you used to ignore. Or beauty you used to overlook. Or connections you used to miss.

Grace opens our eyes.

Not all at once. Not in a blinding flash (well, sometimes, but not usually). More often, it’s gradual. Slow. Like the sun rising. Like your eyes adjusting to the light.

But it’s real.

The man in John 9 didn’t heal himself. Jesus healed him. Grace gave him sight.

And grace is giving you sight too. You’re seeing things you couldn’t see before. You’re waking up. You’re coming into the light.

This Sunday, we’ll explore what it means to move from darkness to light. From blindness to sight. From not-seeing to seeing.

I can’t wait.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Travis
